The Flipped Classroom Life: Wake Up, Log In, and Learn!
HELLO ALL!
We learn new techniques and approaches every week. Our latest task is about "Flipped Classroom Approach". Let's start with what it is and then we'll see how we prepared our materials for it. Flipped classrom is an approach where traditional learning is reversed. Instead of listening to teacher in class, students first study the lessons at home through videos or readings provided by the teacher. When they come to class, they apply what they've learned through interactive activities and discussions with the guidance of the teacher. Like in everything, flipped classroom has both advantages and disadvantages.
Some of the advantages are; class time is only for activities and discussions because teacher do not spend time with lectures in the class, students are more active in the class, students can learn at their own pace outside class and also these class activities make students more engaged when students work together their communication skills also improve.
Of course there are some disadvantages too. For example, Not every student has the same access to internet and sufficient devices to see the pre-lesson materials. Although this technique saves class time it may take teachers time too much since they have to prepare everyting beforehand. Students may have different levels of understanding before class, and some may need more guidance than others, which can be challenging for teachers to create the groups. And this is flipped classroom.
Preparing for this assignment we worked in the groups of four, my friends were Almina, Nilüfer and Sude. We prepared a pre-class activity for 5th graders. We choosed to prepare vocabulary, we selected our words from 2nd unit of the 5th graders book. Then, made a video of these words and their explanations. Also we made a quiz based on these words. It was easier than we thought. When I first see the instruction I thought this will be a long and hard assignment to make but it was rather enjoyable. Here you can see our video and quiz below!
